For many years the Irish Draught horse has been the producer of champions in many spheres of equestrianism & when crossed with thoroughbreds produce the half bred or sport horse. Irish Sport horses have been ranked # 1 in the World Breeding Federation rankings for Eventing since its inception almost 10 years ago. In the Showjumping arena Irish Sport Horses have been popular for several years & proved useful in 2004 with both Carling King "Kevin Babington" & Mr. Springfield "Robert Smith" sharing 5th place at the Olympics in Athens.

Known for their strength, stamina, courage, easy going placid temperament & extreme versatility, the Irish Draught Horse has become an extremely popular choice of mount for Professionals & amateurs alike. They are late developers & mature slowly but a well cared for Irish Draught can still be riding well into his 20's. This is one of the main reasons why they are such a good cross for lighter breeds adding substance to speed & why many of the Continental Warmblood Breeds originate from the Irish Draught.
